The bottom line is that freight rates will be more affordable than before because the marginal cost of labor is cheaper and the cost of fuel will also sink as a result of the rise in demand for electric vehicles.

At the end of the day, shipping costs might drop down to nearly zero and it will be as easy as transferring information online bit by bit. The past few years have been the era of FTL dedicated truckload freight but the next big thing to come will be in the form of autonomous shipping trucks running in electricity rather than fuel. For now, the self-driving technology will have to tackle its most pressing problem which is staffing before it can move forward to bigger things one step at a time.
