Etiquette Tips For The First Date

First dates can be awkward. Okay, they are super awkward, like 99.9% of the time. We worry about what we are going to wear, how it’s all going to go, that sort of thing.

See, first impressions last, and for dating, this particular saying is even more apparent when it comes to dating. Whether it’s someone from work or someone you meet on, making yourself look good on the first date is a must. As such, most of us tend to act in our best behavior, which is good while we measure up our date to see if they are the one for us.

If you’re a bachelor headed for your date from, or a bachelorette looking to woo that co-worker on a date, here are the etiquette tips for the first date.

  • Open doors for the lady. Don’t make a fuzz about it, just do it. It’s something that’s pretty much expected of the men.
  • Compliment them. Find something about them you like, and tell them how you think they look pretty. Cliché as it might be, “You look lovely” is still something that your date wants to hear.
  • Be early. Don’t make her wait around near the date venue looking expectant. Seriously, you wouldn’t want to be late for work, why would you want to be late for a date?
  • Dress to impress. Even a simple polo shirt with classy jeans and shoes can work wonders for your date.
  • Pay the bill. Better yet, do it subtly without her noticing. That’s always a classy display.
  • Make sure she gets home safely, ask her to let you know when she gets home.

  • Feel free to wait for your date to hold the door. It’s pretty much a given that you’ll either be holding the door or having others hold it for you.
  • Say “Thank you”. Show a little bit of appreciation for your date.
  • Dress your best. A common tip by fashion experts is to choose between the leg, shoulders or cleavage and focus on one, never all three.
  • If you don’t want your date to pick up the tab, offer dessert someplace else.

  • Phones on vibrate, and in your pocket/bag, someplace safe. The most interesting thing in the date is sitting in front of you.
  • Don’t get drunk. It isn’t pretty, and it rarely ends well.
