Guide When In Phuket Island

It is tempting to book a 5 star resort in Phuket and just stay there the entire time but it is also a waste to visit the island without exploring it. There are many things to do in Phuket and experiences worth trying. Here are some of the top tourist choices.

  • Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. This is the experience you should not miss when you visit Phuket. This is a place where rescued elephants are cared for while they roam around freely. Tourists get to see how the elephants are fed, they can witness the gentle giants as they swim and bathe and they can watch them play around in the mud. This is a good chance to see the elephants in their natural setting. The sanctuary operates in partnership with the Elephant Nature Park which is located in Chiang Mai.
  • Sino-Portuguese architecture. There are buildings located in Old Town worth seeing for the architecture along. These are shophouses that were built in the 19th century when the Chinese merchants immigrated to Thailand. The architectures are inspired by Dutch and Portuguese. This is the best place to take a stroll while enjoying ice cream.
  • Phang Nga Bay. If you are tired of the beaches of Phuket and wanted to see more of the island, it is time to visit John Gray Sea Canoe where you can check out sea caves located in Phang Nga Bay and go in search of hidden lagoons. This is done together with a local guide and high-tech kayaks.
  • Hawker Stall. One of the reasons tourists flock to Thailand is the street food. There is no shortage of hawker stalls that offer a variety of local dishes such as grilled pork satay, fish balls on sticks, Bak Kut The, Hokkien mee noodles and O Tao. Start with the hawker stalls in Old Town and also explore the night markets.
  • Khao Phra Thaeo National Park. This is located in the northern part of the island which is home to many animals such as wild boars, monkeys, barking deer and gibbons. There are over 100 species of birds worth watching. You can hike and retire at a 5 star resort in Phuket afterwards all in one day.
